Description Salary range: $44,286-$66,429 Posting expires: April 13, 2026 General Description and Classification Standards: Grounds Maintenance Technician II is responsible for performing routine and skilled grounds maintenance activities to ensure airport grounds, roadways, pedestrian areas, parking areas, and landscaped spaces are safe, clean, functional, and visually presentable. This position supports continuous airport operations by conducting inspections, completing assigned maintenance tasks, and responding to service requests in both secured and non-secured airport environments in accordance with established procedures. Supervision Received: Works under direct supervision and follows established policies, standard operating procedures, and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities: These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. • Perform routine and skilled grounds maintenance activities, including mowing, edging, trimming, debris removal, pressure washing, and seasonal landscape upkeep. • Conduct routine visual inspections of airport grounds, roadways, sidewalks, parking areas, medians, and landscaped spaces to identify safety hazards, maintenance needs, and service deficiencies and report findings as required. • Assist with inspections and routine maintenance of grounds maintenance vehicles, trailers, and equipment to ensure safe operation and proper documentation. • Support assigned grounds and exterior projects, including surface sealing, pressure washing, weatherproofing, and maintenance activities during inclement weather events. • Provide grounds maintenance support during airport emergencies or weather-related events by assisting with hazard removal, securing affected areas, and supporting operational response efforts. • Maintain situational awareness while working in secured and non-secured airport areas and comply with airport safety and security requirements. • Operate grounds maintenance equipment and heavy machinery, including mowers, sweepers, loaders, tractors, skid steers, dump trucks, and related attachments, in accordance with safety and operating procedures. • Maintain landscaped areas, turf, trees, and plantings to ensure exterior spaces are safe, orderly, and visually presentable. • Operate street sweepers, vacuum units, and debris collection equipment to maintain cleanliness of roadways, parking areas, service roads, and pedestrian corridors. • Adhere to all applicable safety regulations, environmental requirements, and airport standards during grounds maintenance activities and equipment operation. • Maintain accurate records of grounds maintenance activities, inspections, equipment use, and repairs through established work order or tracking systems. • Work collaboratively with supervisors, fellow technicians, and airport staff to respond to service requests and ensure timely completion of assigned grounds-related work. • Participate in scheduled preventative maintenance programs for grounds equipment and infrastructure to reduce downtime and extend asset life. • Troubleshoot and address routine grounds-related issues using established procedures and standard practices, reporting or escalating more complex issues to a supervisor as appropriate. • Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge Skills and Abilities: This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully, it is not an exhaustive list. • Knowledge of grounds maintenance practices, including landscaping, turf management, pruning, debris removal, and seasonal grounds upkeep. • Knowledge of the safe operation and basic maintenance of grounds equipment, tools, and heavy machinery, such as mowers, sweepers, tractors, loaders, and related attachments. • Knowledge of roadway, parking lot, and pedestrian area maintenance, including sweeping, surface cleaning, and minor concrete or asphalt repairs. • Knowledge of drainage maintenance practices, including inspection and cleaning of storm drains, catch basins, and related features. • Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather. • Ability to complete assigned tasks efficiently within established timeframes and work schedules. • Ability to recognize safety hazards and maintenance needs and take appropriate corrective action or report issues as required. • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment in a safe, responsible, and professional manner. • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and standard operating procedures. • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in support of grounds maintenance operations Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience High school diploma or GED required At least 2 Years of experience in grounds or landscaping maintenance, including experience with commercial, industrial grounds operations or another related field. Must obtain an AMA Certification with 6 months of employment and maintain annually Must demonstrate the ability and competency to advance to Building Maintenance Technician III within 18 months of Hire or Promotion. Licensures and Certifications – Valid Georgia driver’s license. Preferred Requirements - Class A CDL, Class B CDL, Trade Certifications Work Environment: Work is performed primarily outdoors in a large, active airport environment and involves exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and inclement weather. The position requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and operating grounds maintenance equipment and vehicles. Work may be performed in both secured and non-secured areas, including roadways, parking areas, landscaped spaces, and operational service areas. The role may involve exposure to noise, dust, traffic, chemicals, and moving equipment. Employees may be required to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergencies or weather-related events as operational needs dictate. Lifting Requirements: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
